About me

I’m a writer, editor and writing mentor based in the Midlands. My two full poetry collections are Static Exile (2009) and from Animal Illicit (2020). I’ve edited various things, including The Apple Anthology (2013), which picked up a Saboteur commendation. You can find a rolling list on my Writing page, including links to things I’ve published online.

I’ve been helping others with their writing for around twenty years, mostly in universities. I’ve also worked in schools and community centres, with teenagers and adults, and with bookclubs and refugee and asylum seeker communities, in the UK and India, including the Tibetan community in exile. And I’ve taught on creative writing summer schools in the UK, Botswana and Singapore.

I am currently freelancing as a writing mentor, working one-to-one with creative and research writers. More details in the Services section.

I also occasionally get involved in arts-based projects and commissions. Many of my recent projects came out of Coventry’s City of Culture status, 2021-22. You can find details about these and older things in the Projects section.

In 2022 I’ve been working on a novel about a hapless feck who dies and comes back to life in a series of terrible white collar jobs, with support from an Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grant. The grant also helped pay for this website.
