The Apple Anthology

This was a fun book to work on in collaboration with poet and academic Yvonne Reddick. We put together a hybrid anthology of writing and photography about apples.

The wider project was led by an interdisciplinary group of researchers from life sciences and theatre, alongside theatre practitioners and allotmenteers. We spread our nets wide, calling for apple-related work, and arrived at a collection of mini-essays, poetry, translations (a mediaeval French play about Eve and the snake) and one or two interviews, including with an Apple Identifier (like poets, I think he didn’t make his living from this vocation).

The collection was published by Nine Arches Press and was commended as Runner Up Best Anthology in the Saboteur Awards 2014. It was a nice stocking filler; I would have liked to do a few more like this on potatoes, rubber, coffee, almonds – natural, symbolic commodities with plenty of creative charge. But, as is the way of these things, the funding was a one-shot and people moved on.

You can still buy the ebook if you’re curious, or write to me if you’d like to see it.
